The collection contains Jones's personal, business, and legal correspondence as well as his Congressional correspondence and campaign files from elections in 1900, 1906, 1908, and 1911. There are printed materials regarding Virginia politics and government from 1892-1918. Jones's political speeches, and federal patronage correspondence are included. Topics covered in some depth are the Democratic Party in Virginia, tariffs, free silver, Puerto Rico, and U.S.-Philippine relations. There is some genealogical data relating to the Jones family. Among the correspondents are John Randolph Dos Passos, George Washington Goethals, John Lamb, Lucius Nathan Littauer, William Gibbs McAdoo, John Rich McDill, Thomas Staples Martin, Peter Johnson Otey, James Hoge Tyler. Of interest is a letter from 14 year old Clifton Waller Barrett , 1915 March 2 (Box 56) seeking a copy of Jones' speech on Phillipine Independence for use in a debate held by the Library Society of his school.
